If you don’t post letters frequently, you may be confused about how many stamps do you need to post a New Year card to your family? It’s quite confusing for many other people as well. Let me explain some important facts about post stamp quantity.
Letters
The number of stamps depends on the weight of the envelope. A standard letter weighs 1-3 ounces. A 1-ounce letter needs one stamp (first-class) that’s available in $0.55.
For another ounce, you pay an additional $0.15. That means you pay around 70 cents for a 2 oz letter and $0.85 for a 3 oz letter.
It’s better for you to add a single stamp worth $0.70 instead of pasting 3 stamps on the envelope of 2 oz letter.
Postcards
If you are mailing a standard 6” x 4 ¼ size postcard, you will add a forever stamp costs $0.35. However, for a larger size, you will paste a first-class stamp costs $0.55.
If you want to post a wedding invitation, it requires a first-class stamp costs $0.55. Obviously, the size and the weight of an envelope matters a lot.
Note: The value of forever stamps and first-class stamps remains the same. However, the forever stamps don’t expire and they can be used for years. On the contrary, the first-class stamps expire after a particular time and you can’t use them.
